Breakthrough – Silicon nanoparticles can load and protect
high quantities of nucleic acids (siRNA, mRNA, DNA)
without
the use of cytotoxic polymer stabilizers. When formulated as
fusogenic liposome-coated
nanoparticles, the nucleic acid is
delivered to the cytosol bypassing endosomal
uptake and
degradation. Furthermore,
these particles may be coated
with targeting peptides for delivery to
specific cell populations.
